Read the inspiring story about Victor Rios, a former gang member, whose life serves as an inspiration for the youth that we serve.  In every story, you always hear about the power of a teacher, counselor or mentor that made a difference in turning a life around.  This inspiring story reminds us of the barriers to education our students face and the power of never giving up on our youth.  Click here if you would like to read the full article.

American Graduate- Southern California Core Hub Community

Currently 55% of all Los Angeles Unified School District 9th graders fail to earn enough credits to guarantee promotion to 10th grade. Every year more than 20,000 students appear on the city-wide Dropout List.

*KOCE, KVCR, and KLCS will work together as a public broadcasting consortium to provide dropout prevention resources to all the communities of Southern California. By combining direct service to youth, teacher professional development, parent education, and business/workforce connections, the consortium will be able to leverage initiative resources with partners to make a direct and substantial impact on dropout prevention throughout the entire Southern California region.

As a partner in this grant, LAUSD Pupil Services will participtate in coordinating a Town Hall on Dropout Prevention for the City of Los Angeles in May of 2012.  More info to come on this great project!
